imagine grace (political)

Here is some art I just posted on deviantart.com. How do you feel when you see this?

I feel a bit conflicted when I see this. The idea seems wonderful on a whole, but at the same time awkward in a way because I don't know either man personally, or really enough about either one to single them out like this. As a political science minor, and a Christ lover, I also am hit with the ramifications of grace within the context of one but not the other. I don't condone war and violence, but if Bush decided one day to suddnly impart grace on his buddy over there would we all be blown to smitherings? Would a lot more Iraqis be dead? Would more people be alive? In a political sense it's mind boggling, because the idea is great and sound, but not practical. And this wars with my very Christian side. I want everyone to have grace and experience it and offer it, but in the context of the world today it's very hard to imagine that, and it's even harder to sorta want it from someone with so much power. I guess that's the irony huh?

Sorry I haven't commented lately, I used to check your blog quite often, but as of late you hadnt updated very often, but now that I see you are ack to more regular updates I will go back to my old system. =) - Madeleine

I like how you asked for our "feelings" rather than "thoughts" :)

Initially, seeing both men gives me the willies. It may always be like that for me. (Anyone else feel that way?) But the uncomfortable feeling was replaced by a sort of neutrality or something akin to calm after the arrows soaked in. Creating a common enemy got us into this mess, and getting a new perspective where grace replaces the blame game... well, it would make a lot of progress.

And definitely dig the color contrast better on the first one.

those are both really interesting comments and perspectives. I tend to feel "lost" in trying to bridge the practical (political science) side with the theoretical side. That's why I think the question truly is what would your "imagination" say about this image. How do we imagine the reconciling of these two worlds?

When I imagine grace the world suddenly gets brighter, joy seems to pour out. In a cliche Relient K song he sings "The beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair". When I imagine grace I imagine unfairness, but not slanted against me, but in my favor.
